Community Vision Forum
The Downtown Newton Development Association (DNDA) will host a Community Vision Forum on Monday, February 11, 2008, from 6pm 9pm at First United Methodist Church in Downtown Newton.
The event will be facilitated by the DNDA and NC Main Street Program with the goal of allowing all members of the Newton community to have a voice in shaping the future of Downtown Newton. From the event, the DNDA will write their goals and prioritize their project lists based on the needs and desires of the community. A key to successful revitalization is having a shared vision for the future. Community-wide ownership of the program is critical to its success.
All participants will be asked to imagine walking through Downtown Newton 15 years from now and put on paper what they would like to see. From those thoughts, each person will write their own personal vision for Downtown Newton and share those visions in small groups. Then, the small groups will write a group vision, taking into consideration every member’s ideas and desires for the downtown’s future. Each group will then share their combined vision with the larger assembly. All group visions will be reviewed and used to write the DNDA’s goals for the upcoming year.
While hosted by the Downtown Newton Development Association, the Community Vision Forum is supported by the City of Newton, Newton Area Council and Newton Merchants, Inc.
